THE COMPANY
SkySquirrel Technologies was founded in May 2012 and is based out of Halifax, Canada, with a presence in Switzerland and California. The company is proud of the strong multi-disciplinary leadership team which boasts over 40 years of combined experience in the development and implementation of new technologies.

The company has an exclusive partnership with VineView, Scientific Aerial Imaging, Inc., leading provider of remote sensing services to grape growers in California since 2002.

MANAGEMENT TEAM

Richard van der Put – CEO
Richard has 9 years of scientific research experience during which he has been specifically involved in the development of image analysis algorithms for a number of applications ranging from robotics to cancer treatment. He has a strong background in imaging physics, image analysis, signal processing, and algorithm development. The last 3 years he has been leading the R&D team of a small high-tech company as VP of innovation where he has been instrumental in acquiring over $2M in R&D grants. Richard graduated from the Eindhoven University of Technology with a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

Heidi Sayle – CFO
As a Chartered Accountant, Heidi has worked for over 15 years in public and private corporate accounting from Canada to the Middle East. Heidi also thrives in the complex and ambiguous start-up environment, demonstrating incredible integrity throughout. Her diverse skill set ranges from oversight of day-to-day accounting and team management to liaising with auditors, banks, and government organizations to strategic planning and leadership. Heidi received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from St. Francis Xavier University.

Chris MacDonald – VP Business Development
Upon completion of his MBA, Chris spent 8 years honing his business acumen in a strategic consulting role for companies across the United States and Canada, including Aerotech manufacturing and wineries (Napa). Previous to that, he earned his engineering stripes designing and field-testing agricultural harvesting machinery in the farm fields of North America, Australia, and Europe. Chris has a Master of Business Administration from the Tippie School of Management – University of Iowa and received his B.S. in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from Iowa State University.

Dr. Matthew Staid – Director of Applied Technology
Matthew Staid is the co-founder and president of VineView Imaging and has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of remote sensing and image analysis. His development of advanced imaging systems and customized information products for agricultural management has positioned VineView as the leading provider of remote sensing services to grape growers in California. Matt has also been an active member of NASA planetary missions and a principal investigator on NASA research grants as a senior scientist with the Planetary Science Institute. Publications resulting from Matt’s previous research include articles in “Nature” and “Science”. Matt received his M.S. and Ph.D. in geological sciences from Brown University, and a B.S. in engineering from Cornell University.
